Adopt Uganda l Journeys of the Heart Adoption Agency

Infants, toddlers and older children (including siblings) are available for adoption. The infants and toddlers live at the children’s home in Kampala while they await assignment and for the adoption process to be executed. Families will be able to receive a social history on the children (unless abandoned), current and original intake pictures, medical tests of HIV, Hepatitis B and VDRL, as well as information on how well they are doing in the home with caregivers and other children. Updates will be given periodically through the adoption process. Visits can also be arranged prior to the adoption trip.

One trip is possible to complete the adoption; however, two trips are recommended. The Ugandan judges like to see that there is a relationship established between the parent and the child(ren). That can best be demonstrated with a prior visit with the child(ren) before the case is completed. The attorney whom Journeys of the Heart families will use has an excellent reputation and checks out all the facts of the child’s relinquishment to better assure the Courts and the American consulate that an adoption is proper.

In general, a family who has an approved home study and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services approval will meet the eligibility requirements of Uganda.

Approximate costs will be $21,000 for one child which does not include travel and home study/post placement reports. Journeys of the Heart fees for additional siblings will be waived, for children over the age of four, except for out of pocket expenses for the child’s in-country care, medical exams, and other costs related to that child’s adoption case.
